Best Overall
$139-$229 at Amazon

If you're buying one 12V combo kit, this is it. The FUEL brushless motors punch well above their weight class, and the M12 ecosystem is massive, you're not just buying two tools, you're buying into a platform.

What holds up

  • POWERSTATE brushless motors deliver the most power in the subcompact class
  • Hammer drill capability for concrete and masonry work
  • Compatible with 125+ M12 system tools, massive ecosystem
  • Tri-LED lighting on impact driver for maximum workspace visibility
  • Includes both XC 4.0Ah and CP 2.0Ah batteries for versatility

What to know

  • MSRP of $229 is higher than budget alternatives, watch for sale pricing
  • M12 hammer drill can overheat during extended repetitive use in hot weather
  • Lighter users may find the M18 more future-proof for heavy-duty tasks
Expert verdict
I built a deck with this little guy. It did start to overheat in 95 degree weather when I was fastening deck boards down (lot of repetitive motion) but it had plenty of power. Nice and light too, if you're using it overhead.

The drill/driver combo is super versatile and surprisingly powerful for a 12v tool. I also have a M18 fuel hammer drill and M18 Surge driver.. Truth be told, I reach for the M12 far more often.. All around great tools. Lightweight, good battery life especially with the 4.0ah/5.0ah, and solid power.

Best Value
$100-$179 at Amazon

Bosch's 12V kit is the sleeper pick, it's been around forever, has a massive review base, and the community consistently calls it out as the best bang-for-buck 12V option when it goes on sale around $100.

  • 30-minute fast charger included in the kit
  • Compact and lightweight, community notes it's ideal for tight spaces and overhead work
  • Includes soft carrying case, 2x 2Ah batteries, and 2 power drive bits

What to know

  • Brushed motor (not brushless) compared to newer competitors
  • 3/8" chuck is smaller than the 1/2" found on Milwaukee M12 FUEL
  • Older generation design, lacks USB charging on battery

This is rated 4.7 out of 5 stars based on over 6,400 ratings at Amazon.

Looks just like my old Bosch 12v impact and drill kit. Without seeing the head couldn't tell you which it is.

2nd gen Bosch 12v brushless drill/driver. Gsr12v-300, could be 1/4 driver, drill, or hammer drill, they have the same body, just different chuck assembly.

Best Premium 3-Tool Kit
$189-$369 at Amazon

The ratchet addition transforms this from a basic combo into a genuinely versatile kit. If you're a homeowner or light tradesperson, the 3-tool bundle at $199 is the sweet spot, you'll actually use all three tools regularly.

  • Both XC 4.0Ah and CP 2.0Ah batteries included
  • 5-year tool warranty and 3-year battery warranty
  • 4.6/5 stars from 1,630+ Home Depot reviews

The combo kit is a lot more useful for day to day tasks. If you had to pick just one, go with the combo.

I have all three. When you need the ray gun, it's nice to have it. But I use the regular drill and driver 80-90% of the time.

Best Budget Brushless
$68-$150 at Amazon

SKIL doesn't get enough credit. For homeowners who don't need Milwaukee's ecosystem depth, this brushless kit at $68 is genuinely impressive, the USB-C battery charging alone makes it more modern than tools costing twice as much.

What holds up

  • Brushless motors on both tools at a sub-$70 price point
  • PWRCore 12 battery has USB port for mobile charging and 5-minute jump charge (0% to 25%)
  • Hybrid chuck on drill driver accepts 1/4" hex bits without tightening
  • Two-speed torque selection on impact driver for control vs. power
  • 4.8/5 stars from Walmart buyers

What to know

  • Smaller ecosystem than Milwaukee or Bosch, fewer compatible tools
  • Only 52 reviews, less proven track record than competitors
  • Community notes this may be an older-gen model of the SKIL 12V line
Expert verdict
This product is rated 4.8 out of 5 stars based on over 50 ratings.

I have both these kits from these deals... The tools are great. Nothing wrong with 12v around the house or even lots of jobsites.

I just bought a Skil drill/impact drivers set and it has a lot of features that Ridgid should adopt. The impact driver has a ring light that has a button that turns it on for 10 minutes. The newest batteries have a USB C port that will power devices or charge the battery. The charger has high/low settings 3A/6A.

Best Entry-Level Ecosystem Kit
$99-$169 at Amazon

If you're budget-constrained but want to invest in the M12 platform, start here. The non-FUEL version is genuinely capable for home use, and you can always add FUEL tools to your battery collection later.

What holds up

  • Lowest-cost entry into the Milwaukee M12 ecosystem at $99
  • 275 in-lbs of torque, up to 25% more than competition per Milwaukee
  • Impact driver delivers 0-2,500 RPM for fast fastening
  • Includes 30-minute charger and contractor bag
  • Compatible with all M12 REDLITHIUM batteries

What to know

  • Brushed motors, less efficient and durable than FUEL brushless versions
  • Only 1.5Ah batteries included, smaller capacity than FUEL kit's 4.0Ah/2.0Ah
  • No hammer drill function, can't drill into concrete or masonry
  • Community recommends upgrading to FUEL version when on sale for only ~$30 more
Expert verdict
Great entry point into the M12 ecosystem.

I wouldn't buy the installation driver if I didn't have the regular drill driver combo yet. They're just too useful.
