Most business directory platforms already come with built-in features, fields, and search to launch any directory. The main differences are in design, price, extra features, and whether they include hosting.

Best for Local Business Lead FindingOutscraper

For anyone who needs to find and list local businesses, not build a directory, Outscraper is the community's clear favorite. It handles Google Maps rate limits better than PhantomBuster and gives you cleaner data than Apify for local SMBs.

What holds up

  • Handles Google Maps rate limits better than competitors like PhantomBuster
  • Per-search pricing is cost-effective for targeted lists
  • Pulls business name, address, phone, website, and email when listed
  • Better infrastructure than DIY scraping setups

What to know

  • True mom-and-pop businesses often don't have emails listed (expect 40-50% coverage)
  • Still requires separate email enrichment for full contact data
  • Not a full directory management platform, just data extraction
From the community
For local SMBs, Outscraper is probably your best bet - they handle Google Maps rate limits better than PhantomBuster and the per-search pricing makes more sense when you're building targeted lists vs. blasting thousands.

To have a real power house you need performance, SEO, API capabilities so you can scrape automate and generate thousands or ten of thousands business pages a day. For all that I would go for Webflows. Then n8n to automate and generate content, eventually with AI if necessary.

Moz Pro has the most complete tool set we reviewed as part of this roundup and its metrics have become an industry standard even among marketers that use other tools.

My personal recommendation is SEMrush, been using it for the last 2 years. If you only have 1 website and you don't need ongoing tracking, but rather a one off keyword research and backlink gap analysis to export into your own spreadsheet and to run a quick health check, just activate the free trial on SEMrush.

Both SEMrush and Ahrefs are a good choice overall. I've heard horror stories about Search Atlas. Ahrefs & SEMRush have more data on keywords & backlinks and has better crawlers compared to any other tool in the market.
