The Best Dishwashers

Updated May 2026·Experts: CNET, Good Housekeeping · Community: Appliances community user, KitchenStack reviewer

Best Overall
$700-$1,800 at Amazon

If you want one dishwasher that the community and experts both agree on, it's Bosch 800 Series. Real owners rave about it constantly, 'best piece of equipment I've owned in 40 years' is not an unusual sentiment.

What holds up

  • Whisper-quiet operation (38-46 dBA depending on model)
  • PrecisionWash cleans baked-on food without pre-scrubbing
  • CrystalDry delivers better drying than most competitors, including plastics
  • Third rack adds flexibility for utensils and lids
  • Low water use, just 2.6 gallons per cycle on 300 Series

What to know

  • Recent quality concerns on lower-tier models (100/300 series post-2023)
  • Some cycles require the app to access, frustrating non-app users
  • CrystalDry still leaves moisture on interior walls if door stays closed
  • Short 1-year warranty for the price
  • Loading can be fiddly, misloaded items can trigger error lights
Expert verdict
After deep research, visiting appliance showrooms, speaking with industry experts and bingeing on enough dishwasher data to turn my brain into goo, everything points to the Bosch 300 Series SGE53C55UC as the best dishwasher for most people.

This Bosch with PrecisionControl lets you select a light, medium, or heavy wash in each quadrant of the lower rack so now you can place items where they fit best and still get safe, effective cleaning.

My 800 is a tank. No issues. Never feel like it didn't do an excellent job at washing and drying.

Last night a pan had some food burned on that would not come off after scrubbing, soaking, and scrubbing some more with a scrubbie and dish soap. Just for fun, I put it in the dishwasher and ran it. That dishwasher removed gunk that would not come off using a scrubbie.

Best Premium
$1,999-$3,700 at Amazon

The community is clear: if budget isn't a constraint, buy a Miele and never think about dishwashers again. Owners from 2000 are still running theirs, that kind of longevity justifies the premium.

What holds up

  • AutoDos system automatically dispenses the right amount of detergent per cycle
  • Outstanding cleaning performance even on QuickIntenseWash cycle
  • Exceptional long-term reliability, community reports 20+ year lifespans
  • More Energy Star Most Efficient rated models than any other brand
  • Very quiet operation at 42 dBA

What to know

  • Expensive, starts around $1,999 and up
  • Must buy in-store from a dealer in some regions
  • PowerDisk detergent refills are an ongoing proprietary cost
  • 2-year warranty feels short for a luxury product
Expert verdict
The cleaning performance was outstanding, even on the QuickIntenseWash cycle with our toughest messes, as all items emerged squeaky clean and noticeably shiny.

I have 2 Miele installed in my kitchen since 2000 and they are still going strong.

Yeah, get a Miele. They are easily available from Lowe's. I love their Power Disk detergent system. Replace every two months and just press the on button.

  • Stainless steel interior and fingerprint-resistant front panel
  • Flex Zone lets you adjust wash intensity per rack section

  • Energy Star certified with ~$33 estimated yearly energy cost

What to know

Best Budget
$500-$700 at Amazon

In a world where Bosch is pushing features into an app, the Whirlpool's zero-WiFi, zero-fuss approach is genuinely refreshing. The community has voted with their wallets, this is the reliable workhorse pick.

What holds up

  • Full stainless steel tub at a budget price point
  • Third rack included for better cutlery cleaning
  • Zero Wi-Fi or app integration, fully button-operated
  • Very quiet for the price
  • Dishes and cutlery come out perfectly clean per real owners

What to know

  • Longer cycle times than competitors
  • Noisier than premium models, not ideal for open-plan kitchens
  • Some reports of rack parts breaking within a few years
  • Fewer smart features than LG or Bosch equivalents
From the community
I followed Wirecutter and bought their budget pick - Whirlpool WDTA50SAKZ. It was well priced, full stainless steel tub, the 3rd rack is great, and I've been impressed that my dishes and cutlery come out perfectly clean. I like that there's zero wifi/app integration. It's also very quiet.

My parents have this, and it's totally fine. Noisier so wouldn't work in my space but not an issue in their house.

Best for Avid Cooks
$800-$1,400 at Amazon

The community keeps coming back to KitchenAid as the Bosch alternative with better racks and a more solid feel. Multiple owners report buying it twice, once at an apartment, once at a new home, which says everything.

What holds up

  • Third rack significantly improves capacity for glasses and cups
  • Noticeably better rack design and build quality than comparable Bosch models per community
  • Strong cleaning performance on heavily soiled loads
  • Available for ~$800 during sales events
  • Quiet operation

What to know

  • Regular price often exceeds $1,000, requires catching a sale
  • Fewer smart home integrations than Samsung or Bosch
  • Finish is not always fingerprint-resistant depending on model
  • Less brand recognition in dishwasher category vs. Bosch or Miele
Expert verdict
LG, Miele, Bosch and GE Profile are all well-known for their reliability. These brands have proven to perform well in Good Housekeeping Institute testing.

I love our KitchenAid dishwasher! We got the new one with the third rack for $800 during Black Friday last year. We had another KitchenAid at our apartment and it ran perfectly for the four years we were there!

The difference in build quality between the KitchenAid and the GEs is significant. Not just that the KA actually works but the materials, engineering, everything is superior at the same price point. Been about five months but no issues so far.
