Purina Pro Plan is generally considered a reputable dog food range. Their products are developed with input from pet nutrition experts, supported by feeding trials, and backed by quality-control and research programs.
Purina, Hills and Royal Canin do feeding trials and actually test out their foods before selling them. They are huge brands and have the money to have huge research teams and do long term nutrition studies. I work in vet med and will always stick to those brands personally.
I switched from grocery store food to Pro Plan and my dog's poop went from 3-4 times a day to once, and way smaller/firmer. That alone was worth the price difference.
