Angle Grinder with Flap Disk
$10-$50If you ask anyone who's been sharpening mower blades for years, they'll tell you to grab an angle grinder. It's faster than a file, more controllable than a bench grinder, and costs almost nothing at Harbor Freight.
What holds up
- Faster and more effective than drill attachments or hand files
- Better edge control than a bench grinder, easier to maintain bevel angle
- Extremely affordable, Harbor Freight combo available for ~$10-15
- Versatile tool useful for many other tasks beyond blade sharpening
What to know
- Requires some practice to maintain consistent bevel angle
- Can overheat blade metal if used carelessly, potentially weakening it
- Requires blade removal from mower deck for safe sharpening
- Safety gear (gloves, eye protection) essential
Go-to harbor freight, get a cheap angle grinder, and a flap disk. I got mine for $10 on sale.
Did my own with the angle grinder a couple days later and took less time since it was evenly cut with the better control.
