What holds up
- Exceptional out-of-box comfort with no break-in period required
- Lightweight (1 lb 12.6 oz for women's) yet protective on technical terrain
- Wide, roomy toe box accommodates various foot shapes
- Durable nubuck leather upper that softens and conforms to your feet over time
- Excellent traction and stability on rocky, technical cross-country terrain
What to know
- May feel too flexible for hikers who prefer maximum ankle stiffness and support
- Runs noticeably wide, which could be problematic for narrow-footed hikers
- Less protective than heavier-duty boots when carrying very heavy loads or on extreme terrain
We've been overwhelmingly pleased with La Sportiva's foray into the hiking boot realm, so much so, we gave the TX Hike our top award. This boot is a true joy to trek in.
We tested the leather version on a five-day high traverse through Washington's Glacier Peak Wilderness and found it to be the right tool for the job. It handled the trail approach with ease, and once in the high country, it offered ample stability, traction, and protection.
As a trail runner user for years with on and off ankle issue i really like my la sportiva tx hike mid leather gtx. While they are waterproof they are basically a trail runner sole with an ankle height leather upper.
FWIW, I own the LS TX and I'm very pleased with them. ... Love my La Sportiva.
For hikers who need a lightweight, ankle-supportive boot that can sustain over a thousand miles across alpine terrain without failing, the TX Hike Mid Leather GTX earns its place as a long-term trail companion, provided you invest the time to find the right fit before committing.
